Private Prison Lobbyists Are Raising Cash for Hillary Clinton

Source: The Intercept

As immigration and incarceration issues become central to the 2016 presidential campaign, lobbyists for two major prison companies are serving as top fundraisers for Hillary Clinton.

Corrections Corporation of America and the Geo Group could both see their fortunes turning if there are fewer people to lock up in the future.

Last week, Clinton and other candidates revealed a number of lobbyists who are serving as “bundlers” for their campaigns. Bundlers collect contributions on behalf of a campaign, and are often rewarded with special favors, such as access to the candidate.

Richard Sullivan, of the lobbying firm Capitol Counsel, is a bundler for the Clinton campaign, bringing in $44,859 in contributions in a few short months. Sullivan is also a registered lobbyist for the Geo Group, a company that operates a number of jails, including immigrant detention centers, for profit.

all the people in our jails with 20, 40, year mandatory sentences are a gravy train the 'for profits' love! They even have todays police slapping on 'starter felony charges' for them.

now its the Mexicans and people from the 'americas' even children who sit in 'for profit' internment camps and generate a fabulous profit from Federal money, for the 'for profit' Empire America has become.

Please let's not get into the habit of trying to run each other's candidates down.

How can you rationalize this? I thought it was only Republicans that lived in a bubble. It's all about money. If you accept money from military contractors then you support war abroad. If you accept it from the lowest of the low, private prison companies, then you support a war on the American people. Instead of justifying this crime against humanity you should be spending your time ending this injustice or at least acknowledging it here on this discussion. We are rapidly losing members of this party who want to start on offshoot party because of ostrich head in the sand attitudes like this.

Both sides accept money from GS, for example.

Accepting money doesn't mean you have to support that group's initiatives.

Also, campaigns often fail to realize immediately when truly noxious groups offer a donation. It's not often that KKK shows up and wants to fund you - that one you know you should refuse. Later on, some of these donations are returned.

I watched Gov Jerry Brown call him out on it during the Roundtable PBS primary debate in '91. Bill turned beet red and threatened him on live TV. He muttered," You don't know what you're messing with Jerry." I took it as meaning Bill was the opponent chosen by Bush Sr in case Perot stayed in the race and messed up the plan. Fools follow Clinton at the peril of our country.
