Texas officials say video of Sandra Bland traffic stop not edited
Source: reuters
(Reuters) - The dashboard video camera of a traffic stop in Texas of a black woman later found hanging dead in her jail cell was not edited but efforts are being made to repost it, Texas officials said on Wednesday, citing technical issues.
The video, released publicly late on Tuesday, shows how the stop of Sandra Bland for a failure to signal a lane change quickly escalated into an altercation between her and a state trooper. Footage where a car or a tow truck driver are suddenly seen in different places or gone raised questions about whether the video had been altered.
"The video has not been edited," Tom Vinger, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, said in a statement. The department has also asked the FBI to investigate "to ensure the integrity of the video," he added.

However, everyone is focused on why the edit is transpiring, but claiming the audio is fluent and untouched.
EANT --- not so..... listen carefully at time stamp 25:01 through 27:01 --- the officer is lying and the edit happens during lies.

revisit the same instant many times. Apparently, a small purple/green distortion accompanies this shifting:
These similar frames are @32:43, @33:10, @33:29, @33:55, @34:03 and @34:10 in the original TDoPS video upload.
What kind of 'technical glitch' would cause this along with the other problems?

(62,444 posts)Crappy format conversion software between the recorded format and the compressed published format, run on a system that couldn't handle the file size.

(3,872 posts)Obviously, I do not know any of the specifics. Forgive these general (and possibly ignorant) questions: Is it common for conversion software to botch a conversion and still leave a video in a playable form? Is error checking even possible for conversion/compression?

(62,444 posts)How the video got from the camera to the internet can involve a number of steps.
"Error checking" is not much of a deal in digital video. These are fractional second frames displayed to human eyes, not banking data. The entire point of compression and video coding is to not faithfully reproduce bit-by-bit the image sensor data from the camera.
Ripping video from DVD's, for example, can produce all kinds of issues.
I'm sure there is someone at DU with a lot more expertise in this area, but the software and hardware that you find in county police offices can be downright pathetic.
The audio continuity suggests to me that (a) someone came up with a whole new soundtrack, or (b) something went wrong with the combination of video codecs between the camera and the web-published video. It seems that whomever "edited" the video was a dang good sound technician, but had severe visual problems.

(3,872 posts)I have never looked much at video formats, conversion, etc. Maybe that would be a good way to learn a significant amount of programming.
What I wonder is who looked at the final published video (at TDoPS) and said to himself/herself - "Yes, the public will not even question these video anomalies - I am sure of it, and there is no way that these will diminish our credibility in the slightest."
I hope that the FBI investigates this exceptionally thoroughly.

And where is the video of the jail 24 hours before she was murdered?

Maybe they're GHOSTS, or something!!!
