Cops: Hulking Jackass Struck Waitress After She Asked Him To Stop Using Racial Slurs



A hulking restaurant patron who told South Carolina cops that he “had been joking with an African American family and calling them racial slurs” was arrested Saturday night after allegedly assaulting a female waitress who asked him to leave the eatery due to his behavior.

According to police, Dustin Lowery, 23, struck waitress Megan Churchill in the face during the incident at Shuckers, a raw bar in Myrtle Beach. The 260-pound, 6’ 4” Lowery, seen at right, was charged with misdemeanor battery.

Churchill told police that Lowery and his family “were causing a disturbance and using racial slurs towards another family.” Churchill said the diatribe was “so bad” that the other family left the restaurant. The 23-year-old waitress added that Lowery slapped her in the face when he was asked to leave Shuckers.

When questioned by police, Lowery--who smelled strongly of booze--said that he had been jokingly directing racial slurs at the other family, claiming that while “he did not know the family...he didn’t believe they minded” being denigrated.

Lowery, who works for a construction firm, claimed that he only struck Churchill after she hit him. Lowery, cops noted, outweighs Churchill by 120 pounds and is 13 inches taller than her.

Why isn't he being charged with a hate crime? Someone please clue me in? His racial denigration against the family seems like a verbal assault and also a hate crime.

Shove someone and that's all that happens, and it's probably a misdemeanor. Send them to the hospital, and it's a felony.

It gets fuzzy between those extremes, and local law and precedent can move the line.

In other words, after hate speech and battery, and attempting to leave without paying —he's charged with a misdemeanor?

Let's switch up the skin colors of everyone in this scene: if he'd been a 6'4" African American male using anti-white slurs (which I am not equating to his anti-black slurs, since they don't have the history) and then slapped a waitress, he'd be down on the floor in cuffs and a policeman's gun to his head and then in jail with a bail that would destroy his life.

This is public racism wrapped in private white privilege.

It might get it reduced later, but the original charge would be as maximum as they could make it for slapping a white woman and public drunkenness.

My wife and I used to vacation there. Her to shop, me to golf.

We saw a similar incident in a sports bar about 15 years ago. A jerk was talking to a black family, and we assumed he knew them, then when their food arrived, the jerk sat down at their table and started eating it. The cook came out and tossed him, and the asshole spent the next 30 minutes trying to get back in.

My parents lived there, and over x-mas I brought my dad back to Florida with us. I'll never have to step foot in that shithole again!
