Black Lives Matter': Elizabeth Warren lashes out at racism and Republicans who cower at Donald Trump
Elizabeth Warren threw down the gauntlet with an impassioned speech at Netroots Nation on Friday morning, criticizing mass incarceration and bashing Republicans for racism.
Now look, House Republicans may still want to fly the Confederate flag, and Republican leaders may cower in the shadow of Donald Trump, she said. But the American people understand that black lives matter and America is not a country that stands for racism, bigotry or hatred.
It is a moral and economic imperative to build an economy that creates real opportunity, that doesnt lock up millions of our fellow human beings behind bars, she said.
America must prove that on equality and justice, the American people are progressives, she said.

(31,906 posts)President Obama's visit to the Federal Prison yesterday - and I'm liking that she is getting up to speed with Corey Booker this issue. He needs all the help he can get on our side!

(3,859 posts)but I must say his second term has a lot of positives, domestic and foreign. So far the ACA has provided new healthcare and reduced health care inflation. His legacy will be in his policies and symbolism, but he has provided the leadership we need in issues of justice, righting wrongs and healing.

Some Americans do. Recent polling and discourse on these issues shows that the majority of the country doesn't believe that racism is a serious issue, doesn't believe that black Americans face disparate treatment at the hands of the police, doesn't believe that the Confederate flag should be associated with racism and believes that any racial tension that the US is dealing with at present is somehow Obama's fault.
Don't even get me started about the nonsense that I constantly hear about how the "Black Lives Matter" movement is in and of itself racist and is somehow a rallying cry for black supremacy.
