Heavy thunderstorms left one person dead and devastated property as the Korean Peninsula came under the influence of typhoon Chan-hom over the weekend.
Some 574 flights were grounded at 12 airports across the nation as of 8 p.m. Sunday, while 163 vessels were forced to stay in port, according to the Ministry of Public Safety and Security.
The Korea Meteorological Administration said Chan-hom, which has traveled north along the West Sea, made landfall at North Korea's Ongjin on Monday morning and then dissipated.
The KMA said as rain clouds head toward North Korea, between 40 to 150 mm of torrential downpours are expected there until Monday night.

Certainly not as bad as it could have been. North Korea is getting the brunt of the storm. As of this morning we had a little wind and drizzle. It doesn't look like there was much impact in my area.

(24,341 posts)We got whacked and hard
We had high winds, rain, the whole thing
The ceiling in one of the building where I worked, water got in and it collapsed
It wasn't as bad as the typhoon a few years back, but it's as close without there being one
Good to hear you didn't take it much

(22,000 posts)I didn't think it got that close to you guys down there. There is another one coming up toward Japan that looks particularly nasty. The current track has it going over southern Japan and toward your area.
On the flip side I am hoping for plenty of rain in Gangwon-do as I'm headed to go rafting later in the month. With the drier weather I have to wonder how high the river will be.

(24,341 posts)Boseong, Yulpo, Beolgyo, etc all get hit hard
From the path of the storm it is hard to tell that.
