Black Conservative Group Defends Cosby Against ‘Appalling’ Release of Court Documents
Source: Mediaite
The black conservative group Project 21 is defending Bill Cosby from the release of the court documents from a 2005 case in which Cosby saidadmitted he obtained Quaaludes to give to women he wanted to have sex with.
At issue was how Judge Eduardo Robreno decided to release the documents due to Cosbys role as a public moralist, specifically with his Pound Cake speech talking about crime and the responsibility of black families.
(...)
Member Deroy Murdock also said that Americans should be free to express themselves without fearing that their views will be used later to justify breaching confidential documents in what resembles political score settling by federal judges.
Theres also this comment from Bishop Council Nedd:
What the judge did in this case is as morally reprehensible as SCOTUS deciding to ignore the Constitution on the gay marriage issue. The judge releasing those sealed documents is pandering to the media, akin to Justice Robertss decision in the ObamaCare ruling, and Charleston County Magistrate James Gosnell, Jr.s very odd speech at the arraignment of Dylann Roof.

(57,936 posts)Why were they sealed?
Oh, because Cosby only agreed to settle an earlier case if the truth about his conduct could be kept a secret.
Gowen argued in his brief that Cosby agreed to the settlement under terms that all discovery materials related to the case would remain confidential.

Oh. So Cosby paid to have these documents sealed, that is, not published, in yet another case alleging his sexual misconduct.
Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money.
Nice to have it when you want your wrongdoings to be hidden from public view.
Yet another settlement aimed to prevent future victims of crimes of simply civil wrongs from knowing the truth and maybe avoiding a lot of heartbreak.
These kinds of clauses in settlements are almost required, but should they be? Should the truth be hidden in thsi way, just as a price for a settlement?

(40,656 posts)they entirely ignore the contents of it. Apparently, among their group drugging women for sex without consent is appropriate even to that pretend Bishop. I wonder how clean their hands are? At the end, all moralists fail too.

"Did you ever give any of those young women the Quaaludes without their knowledge?" Troiani asked.
Cosby's attorney objected and told him not to answer the question.

(26,299 posts)that would have made much of a difference because the statute of limitation is probably expired by now I would imagine and I dont think civil lawsuit would work either because civil also have a time limitation on them as well dont they?

(37,748 posts)His admission strengthened a plaintiff's (Janice Dickerson) defamation lawsuit against him. Additionally, in 1990, California enacted a law allowing victims of sexual abuse as minors to sue for conduct in decades past.

(50,254 posts)Also, my sense is that a lot of them felt disregarded or ignored by the rest of the black community even before they decided they were conservatives and perhaps they feel a bond with the man because they see him as a fellow outcast, a fellow pariah.
Self-pity and bitterness can play powerful roles in shaping a person.

(20,450 posts)but his most ardent supporters are in the CONSERVATIVE community, period.
Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, and a slew of other conservatives--both black and white--have been defending Cosby, but because they necessarily agree with what he did, but because they love it when prominent black figures put down black people. Especially when said figure is himself a flawed character. They get to have their cake and eat it too. They get to use this figure to castigate black folk, while at the same time, ridicule him for whatever mistake he made. Remember: he's still an Obama supporter. So they can protect themselves from charges of racism by pointing to Cosby and saying, "well, see...he's black and has been saying the same thing we've been saying about you stupid Negroes...". And, at the same time, get other black conservatives cheering and co-signing as well. At the same time when it's convenient, they can ridicule him for being an Obama supporter, and going against his former "principles".
That's why we black liberals also need to be careful who we champion and put up as our leaders as well. All are fallible human beings.
I, for one, have been quite dismayed by any black person who excuses Cosby's behavior. I'm most depressed by black women who defend this guy.
