Union sues Baker administration over early retirement plan

Source: Boston Globe

By Joshua Miller

A large public-sector union is suing Governor Charlie Baker’s administration, alleging it improperly blocked some state employees from taking advantage of an early retirement incentive program.

The National Association of Government Employees is asking a Suffolk Superior Court judge to force the state to allow a narrow category of workers to be able to take advantage of the pension-sweetening deal, which was aimed at saving the state money by reducing its payroll costs.

About 2,475 employees did take the early retirement package — leaving government service on June 30 — and won’t be affected by the case.

The union says it is representing less than 50 state employees in the civil action.

now and why do I suspect that the preferred way the governor wants to probably save money will be by firing people?

Firing any of those workers would be double jeopardy for him!

The reason I posted this in LBN was to show the few workers in union are treated like a majority. All for one...
