Faced with a swift and fierce backlash, Republicans Saturday abandoned a plan that would have gutted the state's open records law.

In a joint statement issued Saturday afternoon, Gov. Scott Walker and GOP legislative leaders said the provisions relating to any changes to the would be removed from the state budget.

"After substantive discussion over the last day, we have agreed that the provisions relating to any changes in the state's open records law will be removed from the budget in its entirety. We are steadfastly committed to open and accountable government," the statement read. "The intended policy goal of these changes was to provide a reasonable solution to protect constituents' privacy and to encourage a deliberative process between elected officials and their staff in developing policy. It was never intended to inhibit transparent government in any way."

The announcement came from Walker, but it was also attributed to Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau), Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester), Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) and Rep. John Nygren (R-Marinette). Darling and Nygren are co-chairs of the Joint Finance Committee.............

this, IMO, was a throw away from the start. It was never intended to be a part of the final bill before the legislature, it was put in so Walker could appear to be a leader and throw it out. Politics as usual for the repubs.

He seems to have been cast for the part of a crooked politician with not very much in the way of intelligence or imagination in a Vaudeville skit.

Yet he's real life.

Walker lost this one. Now, let's use a barrage of open records requests to nail his ass to the wall as the source of this stinking pile of dung.

awed by this new bomb.... distracted by it so that we are not looking at the manyOTHER heinous items hidden within this budget bill - including administrative and other changes to the Wis Retirement system said to possibly be the beginning of dismantling/privatization of the WRS. You KNOW they've been itching since day one to get their greedy mitts on those billions of dollars of funds.

KEEP AWAKE and alert people!!!!

Me, I need to get reading up on this.... Ive been kinda numbed out since the recalls but getting agitated again!

Glad you're here! THIS from your thread is the most important part of all:

"KEEP AWAKE and alert people!!!!"

Our side seems very adept at rolling over and dozing off to sleep the minute we snatch a falling crumb from the table before it hits the floor. REALLY frustrating!

As Mad-Eye Moody warned Harry Potter regarding all the devious Dark-Siders out there - "CONSTANT VIGILANCE!!!!"

AND a little devious thinking on our side wouldn't hurt, either. It might keep us from being caught flat-footed so much of the time. Our operatives are far too conciliatory, naive, gullible, and narcoleptic.

All kinds of goodies hidden in the budget bill.

Makes me glad my state's constitutions forbids our legislature from passing bills with multiple subjects. They have to succeed (or fail) on their own merits.

See: GAO under GOP rule, 2015.

If not that, they'll find another way to hide stuff, they did it before. They got away by using an entrenched patronage system to hide votes against Walker. He's done illegal things and still there.

The ultimate protection for Grand Theft Wisconsin is privatization. The information becomes the private property of a corporation, and not open anymore. They block off the land like they did in NV. They drive people off their land in Appalachia to strip mine. They hold meetings to conduct public business in private venues where the public isn't allowed.

Look at all the dirt on Christie. He's still there. The dirt on the malfactors in Texas government, including DeLay. Still walking free. The corruption is now under the control of religious zealots like the one who stole Florida for GWB in 2000.

We know who set up the Brooks Brother Riots composed of the aides of GOP in Congress to stop the voting in 2000. They are all enjoying the spoils of breaking the law against federal employees interfering with elections. We know voters were intimidated in FL and TN and disenfranchised with fraudulent data bases in FL.

The authors of these fascist acts are still free after their brownshirt tactics were used on the hapless people doing their job counting votes. The RW was intense, they were everywhere demonstrating and threatening violence, even before the USSC gave GWB the position of POTUS.

The RW bused in church buses full of people to howl obscenities at Gore and his family 'Get Out of Cheney's House!' during the night. It was intimidation on a scale Americans hadn't seen since the Civil War when the Confederates shot people before it started. And these are like them.

I don't know if a liberal federal government can change anything in these states run by fascists. And sorry to be so pessimistic. It seems every victory is not what we think it is.
