Ted Cruz Calls For US To Quit UN Human Rights Council After Vote Condemning Israel

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz called Friday for the U.S. to withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), after the body voted to condemn Israel's conduct during the 2014 war in Gaza.
The U.S. was the only country to vote against the resolution put before the council Friday, with 41 voting in favor, and five countries abstaining. The resolution condemned Israel's targeting of innocent civilians during the conflict, and also called for an end to the impunity of Israeli officials responsible for alleged war crimes.
In a statement posted on his website, Cruz said that the single U.S. vote against the censure was a meaningless gesture.
It is time to stop ceding moral authority to the UNHRC and tell the truth about this hopelessly biased and anti-Semitic institution.
The United States should stop legitimizing the UNHRC with our membership and withdraw now, he added.

(14,111 posts)and now we have actually elected idiots who believe this.
Ted Cruz is seriously disturbed. His craziness and his ambition, combined with his twisted pseudo-intelligence, make for a dangerous brew.

(14,111 posts)He is a barely concealed Christian Domionist, with an actual chance to be the GOP nominee.
I'd tried to keep myself from saying so directly myself , in part because it scares me so much to think about it, but, yeah, he, and his (shudder) potential to be the GOP nominee, pose a real danger to our country (not to mention the world).
He's already doing enough damage as Senator (the latest absurdity about having an elected Supreme Court -- this from a Harvard Law School graduate?????)
He is one twisted dude. Smart (in a way) and articulate, but pathologically ambitious, intellectually dishonest and deeply twisted. The worst combination.
Also, his resemblance to Joseph McCarthy is strong enough to make me wonder about reincarnation.

(2,065 posts)The resemblance is downright chilling. Now - I believe that senator McCarthy had a serious alcohol problem. Is Ted Cruz, despite his sickeningly self righteous, "holier than thou" Christian fundamentalist front, really a closet alcoholic?
FYI - I happen to believe in reincarnation. It makes a lot of sense.

(6,891 posts)False equivalence maybe? As for Cruz, that nutjob is sort of the Tail Gunner Joe McCarthy of the day and has been channeling the former disgraced senator so long he looks like him.

(13,058 posts)damning is it that out of all of those countries ours is the only one to vote against the resolution?
