New York state officially bans fracking

Source: Syracuse.com

Albany, N.Y -- It's official: New York has banned fracking.

After more than seven years of study, the state Department of Environmental Conservation today issued the final document needed to ban the controversial drilling practice, known formally as high-volume hydraulic fracturing.

"Prohibiting high-volume hydraulic fracturing is the only reasonable alternative," said DEC Commissioner Joe Martens in a prepared statement. "High-volume hydraulic fracturing poses significant adverse impacts to land, air, water, natural resources and potential significant public health impacts that cannot be adequately mitigated. This decision is consistent with DEC's mission to conserve, improve and protect our state's natural resources, and to enhance the health, safety and welfare of the people of the state."

Today's finding statement has been in the works since December, when Martens said he would ban fracking because too little was known about the potential health impacts. Last month, the DEC released a 1,448-page report on fracking that began in 2009. Today's findings statement is based on that report.

TPP will likely overrule such a ban, and the former Senator from NY supports the TPP.

The subject is New York banning fracking, not TPP or Hillary Clinton.

It has nothing to do with Free Trade, since the U.S. already trades freely with all countries involved. It is about maximizing profits and preserving wealth for multi-national corporations (who are the sole negotiators). Part of maximizing profits is the "legal" means to nullify pesky little laws and regulations, like fracking bans, that might limit their profits. HRC has expressed support for TPP publicly in the past. if she is now against it, her Wall St backers might get a little pissed.

Only the plaintiff makes an argument, no defense is permitted. So Chevron makes an argument to ISDS that fracking ban interferes with their "right" to make a profit by fracking, and poof, fracking ban is nullified. HRC supports this unprecedented yielding of absolute power to corporate interests.

... overturn laws or claim lost profits forcing countries/states/etc to do their bidding. So all it will take is for one foreign company (or international subsidiary of an american company) to sue and fracking will be reinstated regardless of what we the people want or vote for.

Rule 3: If the TPP passes Congress and a facking corporation takes you to the ISDS, see Rule 1.
Rule 4: If the TPP passes Congress, a facking corporation takes you to the ISDS and that panel of corporate shysters rules in favor of the corporation, see Rule 1.
Rule 5: If the TPP passes Congress, a facking corporation takes you to the ISDS, that panel of corporate shysters rules in favor of the corporation and awards the corporation damages for unrealized expected profits, tell them to fuck off, don't pay them a nickel and see Rule 1.

It's being negotiated in secret, by industry insiders. If the agreement wasn't harmfull, it wouldn't be secret.

I saw this commercial on the TV that said fracking is completely safe for everyone. Now why would they do that if it was t true? They were even eating apple pie!

We still pay millions each year to clean up after the coal barons who raped Pa yet my state loves the fracking frackers. Makes no sense to me.

Things like continuously dumping lime in creeks to neutralize the runoff of mine acid. Although we still have orange creek beds. Ever hear of a town called Centralia. Big old underground coal fire caused the town to be abandoned. Guess who paid for that? Here is a hint not the coal baron who owned it.

We have a Democrat governor now, Wolf, but the legislature is still republican controlled. They have their arms wide open leading us down the path of further environmental rape. They won't even tax the drillers. Yet the schools in Philadelphia and Reading have near 50% drop out rates. The last four years we suffered with a republican governor and republican legislature. We are 49th in job creation. Republicans refused to pay the bill for our public workers pensions. 50 billions of unfunded responsibility. They didn't raise our taxes but also did not pay our bills. Republican economic policy is a complete failure in Pa. They completely ignored their fiduciary responsibility for years and have sunk us into a huge hole.

Man I wish my neighbors would wake up.
