NBC: Done With Donald Trump, Miss USA, Miss Universe

Source: Deadline Hollywood

NBC just announced:
At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values.

Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.

To that end, the annual Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants, which are part of a joint venture between NBC and Trump, will no longer air on NBC.

It shouldn't have taken Trump openly being a bigot to get rid of the beauty pageants (which should've stayed in the 1950s). Still...

"In addition, as Mr. Trump has already indicated, he will not be participating in “The Apprentice” on NBC.

Celebrity Apprentice is licensed from Mark Burnett’s United Artists Media Group and that relationship will continue, NBC said."

The show will continue, presumably with a new host.

He never personally goes bankrupt.
Always found it interesting that going bankrupt and walking away from a mortgage is accepted and even thought "a good business practice" for corporations, but individuals who do the same thing are reviled as slackers or whatever.
Another way the deck is stacked against us.

My former employer was owned by an investment banker/vulture capitalist. The bastard took the company through bankruptcy which screwed a lot of suppliers out of a ton of money, many good employees lost their jobs, and he skated away with $millions in cash. That slime ball sack of shit and Trump both belong in jail, NOT being held up as some kind of business genius.

They bought a company, then made the company issue debt to pay them back with interest and profit.

Usually this resulted in a massive struggle for the purchased company, due to the mountain of debt Romney and company extracted.

Then he tries to come off as some business genius. I remember the 70s when this clown went bankrupt the first time. Its sad to believe this racist simpleton is running second in primary polls. A whole segment of America follows him and feels the way he does.

But one good thing. If nominated Trump will get about zero percent of the Hispanic vote.

Now that he is a declared candidate for POTUS, wouldn’t that have made NBC give equal time for other candidates? I’m not sure how that works exactly.

Not that they would have had to dump those stupid “beauty contests” too, so I believe it is all owing to his being a disgusting person...

I think there are FEC rules on this. I’m going to poke around the web and see...you may be right, though. i think what happened when he “ran” back in ’12 is he never filed with the FEC and therefore didn’t have to give up his show.

Either way I am glad the short fingered vulgarian is gone - not that I ever watched his show except for one season when a friend was on it back in the early days.

Would be nice to see an end of the stupid pageants!

And those under the age of 5 are a majority of a "minority" population... Meaning, there will be more people in America with darker pigments in their skin than white people in our next generation. Anyone in business would know these statistics (or should know), and would definitely want to avoid a backlash of looking like a company that stood up for bigotry and hate. Surpassing the color/ ethnic divisions as a tool for the PTB to divide this country, is a step in the right direction... And I think that's why we are seeing this last vestiges of hate groups getting riled up! They know they are past their prime in relevancy.

Just look at the responses to the Charleston shooter. Look at the responses by most normal American (I'm not talking about the crazy rabid, right wing that pops up on mash boards acting like fools) to the over reaction by police and their disregard for human life, especially life that has more melanin in their skin pigment....

At the end of the day, we are one human race. We may have different origins and genetic compilations, but we are all one race and we ought to respect one another. A little empathy goes a long way. Last week felt like a remarkable, uplifting shift. After the horrific murder of 9 people in their church, their was truly grace and inspiration and a true movement on race issues... Health care was deemed a right by the Courts (which to me says that in the future, individuals should be able to sue for access to that right). And the courts ruled for Love over hate, fear and prejudice when it equalized marriage rights.

I'd say last week felt about as good as it did on election night in 2008. That feeling of hope, possibility, a path forward. Lights on, darkness scattered. And yes, there is a lot of work to yet be done, but sometimes, standing in that arch of history and realizing how amazing it feels as we are creating lessons our children will be learning into the future is quite remarkable.

I hope no one else picks it up.

Oh, sure... it's a "scholarship program." For the amount of money that goes into these beauty pageants, they could give full academic scholarships to probably more than 1000 women, rather than just one who looks great in a bikini.
