Severe thunderstorms cut through northern Illinois; reports of tornadoes

The National Weather Service on Tuesday expected to try to confirm reports of tornadoes touching down Monday in Grundy, Will, Lee and LaSalle counties, snapping 1-foot-diameter trees, trapping people in overturned trailers and flooding roads.
High winds caused heavy damage in Coal City, a city of about 5,000 residents south of Chicago in Grundy that experienced a tornado in 2013, authorities said. The city's emergency manager reported numerous buildings, including homes, damaged, according to the National Weather Service.
Were pretty certain it was a tornado," said weather service meteorologist Casey Sullivan.
Lt. Nick Doerfler of the Coal City Fire Protection District said late Monday that in addition to structure damage, roads in the city have been blocked by fallen trees and power lines. He says there had been no confirmed reports of injuries a little before 11 p.m.

(5,815 posts)They were actually supposed to be there last night, but my dad wasn't feeling well and they left Monday morning.
They're waiting to hear about friends and neighbors who were out there and whether or not their place still exists.
(Woodhaven is kind of like a nice trailer park/camping ground with park models on small lots in a wooded area).
