President Barack Obama will deliver the eulogy at Rev. Clementa Pinckney's funeral.
According to a White House official, Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will travel to Charleston on Friday for the services.
Pinckney was among the nine people who were shot and killed during a prayer service at a historically black church in Charleston, South Carolina, last week. Pinckney was a state senator and the head of the Emanuel AME Church.
South Carolina state Sen. Marlon Kimpson (D) told ABC News Pinckney was the "moral conscience of the General Assembly."

What a good and decent man we have as a President. HE should be the eulogy presenter in chief, but too often, it seems he is.

(30,745 posts)I hope he mentions that this man was a state senator. This was a racist assassination first and foremost, but it was a political assassination, too. We need to hear that.

They both stand tall and somber. It's enough to break ones heart. Their demeanor makes me proud and Obama always comes up with just the right words to say.
Bless them both.

(18,124 posts)I hope he and Joe will be exceptionally well protected, double, triple, quadruple level protection especially because of the lapses of the SS during his tenure as POTUS and this eulogy being in the heart of the new confederacy.

(1,150 posts)and I imagine the only thing that could get to either the President or Vice President that day would be a rather remarkable air strike. One that somehow evaded the cover provide by the Air Force over the region. So - I'm thinking no worries.

(25,771 posts)but the first thing I thought of was not JFK. RFK or others who were taken from us, but of Abraham Lincoln traveling to Richmond Virginia after that city fell to the Union ... of course, then he was taken.
