(4,711 posts)They were perfectly capable of killing each other long before we stepped in. The history of Afghanistan generally consists of long bouts of killing each other interrupted by shorter bouts of killing invaders.

(60 posts)As far as I'm concerned, we never should have entered World War I or World War II either. We would not have ended up speaking German or Japanese if we hadn't. That's just a stupid thing to say.

(112,254 posts)Thick smoke filled the inside of Afghanistans Parliament building after explosions and gunfire on Monday, sending lawmakers racing for the exits.
Afghan security forces are now battling militants in the parliamentary compound, Sediq Siddiqi, an Interior Ministry spokesman, said by phone. Most lawmakers were in a safe place underneath the parliament, broadcaster Tolonews reported.
No group has claimed responsibility for the assault so far. The incident occurred before an expected vote to confirm a nominee for defense minister.
The attack is the most brazen yet since Afghan forces took over security duties from the U.S. at the beginning of this year. The Taliban has intensified attacks to regain power the group lost when American troops invaded in 2001.
