'Be on Alert': Police Comb Separate Parts of New York for Escaped Prisoners

Source: NBC News

Officers closely searched two areas at opposite ends of New York on Sunday for prison escapees David Sweat and Richard Matt, who could be hitching rides on trains, authorities said.

More than 300 law enforcement officers combed the southern town of Friendship after a woman reported seeing men who matched the descriptions of Matt and Sweat by railroad tracks near her home. By Sunday night, they were also searching in the upstate area of Owls Head and Mountain View, about 30 miles west of Clinton Correctional Facility, which they escaped from more than two weeks ago, state police told NBC News.

Police have received hundreds of tips since David Sweat and Richard Matt escaped Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora on June 6, but one called in Saturday from Friendship — nearly 400 miles from the prison — caught their attention.

State Police Maj. Michael Cerretto said a woman called police a bit after 1 p.m. ET Saturday and said she had spotted two men who looked like Matt and Sweat in Friendship, which is just north of Pennsylvania.

"We determined that she was credible and that this should be investigated," Cerretto said during a news conference Sunday.

The woman who was helping them said they had told her after she was to pick them up they wanted her to drive them 7 hours away, but they didn't say which direction or anything else.
I think they had a meet up and when plan A failed they had a plan B that allowed them to contact this person

I find it hard to believe with all the work they put into the planning that they didn't have a plan B and C

As of right now, recent dna evidence suggests that the fugitives are still in the area. The area in question is inside the Adirondack park: extremely rural wild forest and generally bereft of year around population. What is there, are numerous seasonal camps, many of which are tucked deep down forest, awd only, roads. Most of these camps will be stocked with basic non perishable food and other supplies. It is entirely conceivable that if they are able to avoid detection, they could survive for an extended period of time in this region. The main roads are completely locked down -- I had to pass through three different checkpoints in order to get out of my neighborhood this morning -- there is zero chance they are getting out of there by car, if they're still around, but the forest is vast and so is the trail system. This could take awhile and the fugitives don't necessarily need help to survive -- they do need food and shelter though, so the unoccupied camps are key.

I hope they are dead somewhere. I hope their corpses are found soon.

These two are the worst of the worst.

They are not living happily but they are not dead. If this were fall or winter, I would say they were gone.

it ups the pressure on them. So far they haven't stolen any cars which would telegraph their location. They have however been near the rail road lines which traverse the state. NY is a very large state and there is lots of uninhabited places. They are out near Seneca Tribe land. I believe they are together yet because Sweat knows the NY - PA border area thats where he killed the police officer..

You don't know any more than they do. And they know nothing, except about the DNA in the cabin.
