Cincinnati man calls 911 on self, kills responding officer

Source: CNN

While friends were commenting on his last Facebook post Friday -- and some were reading text messages indicating his plan to commit suicide by cop -- Trepierre Hummons called 911 then waited with a gun for police to arrive, Cincinnati police said.

When they did, he and shot and killed 48-year-old Officer Sonny Kim, a husband and father of three, police said.

Then he opened fire on two more officers, said Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffery Blackwell.

The police, while armed, didn't know what they'd walked into. That's because when when the 21-year-old Hummons called the emergency operator, he didn't hint at his plan.

people just keep getting more creative when it comes to killing each other. with all the difficulties lately with police, most of them diligently put their lives on the line to keep their communities safe.

rip, officer.

cause the police to be more cautious on calls, and be more willing to pull the trigger to protect themselves.

but if officers are going to start getting ambushed, i guess it won't be a surprise if it happens. not going to help the already strained relationship wih the public.

From another article

Four years ago, when he was 17, Hummons armed himself with a gun, stole a car and broke into a home. A police report on the incident says Hummons told the victim "this is a robbery" and demanded he take him into the house.

He then took a cell phone and the victim's 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier, the police report said.

He received 90 days for that, which is bullshit for armed robbery. I would also assume he was not eligible to own a gun.

He also turned 21 less than a month ago, so I would wonder if he bought the gun legally or got it elsewhere.

Officer Kim had served for 27 years on the Police Force, with many commendations, and was a principal trainer in a Japanese karate studio.
Earlier this year a Cincinnati Fire fighter was killed after falling down an elevator shaft in an apartment about 1 1/2 miles from the scene of Friday's shootout, in the Madisonville area.

Madisonville is a community of older homes, located on the eastern perimeter of the city, bordering some of the area's wealthier suburbs, such as Indian Hill and Mariemont. The community council has worked hard to foster safety and stabilize the area, as new, large businesses are building close to the nearby !-71.

I worked in the area for four years about 30 years ago in a public capacity and was treated courteously by the local customers, even though it was known that there were some rough ones dealing drugs. Many families stayed in the area for generations, while younger home-buyers see an opportunity in reasonably-priced starter homes.
