PORTSMOUTH, N.H. Gov. Chris Christie has been an outspoken critic of President Obama's shift to open relations with Cuba, but now he's taking aim at people who travel there as tourists.
The governor, speaking during his latest "Tell It Like It Is" town hall in the first presidential primary state of New Hampshire on Thursday, accused U.S. citizens traveling to Cuba amid Obama's plans to normalize relations with the country of "participating in the oppression" imposed by Cuba's rulers.
The line was delivered during the event and comes after Christie has criticized Obama for months over his decision to remove Cuba from the federal Department of State's list of state sponsors of terrorism and normalize relations with the country.
And while the new rules stop short of allowing tourists to visit Cuba, they open the door on other types of authorized travel including family visits, professional meetings and religious activities.

(1,016 posts)Right now it is Cuba at its best. After the embargo is lifted their will Starbucks, McDonalds, the rest of the franchises on every corner. Will be like visiting Little Havana in Miami. Not the same thing.

(5,562 posts)I want to see it before it becomes like every other place, as you say with all the horrible franchises on every corner. I don't support them here, and I sure don't visit them when I travel.

If I were a New Jersey Catholic, I guess I could say ten Hail Marys and vote for Chris Christie, but I'm neither Catholic nor a resident of New Jersey. So I guess I won't bother to feign remorse that I'm not feeling anyway.

(4,252 posts)I been to NJ beaches for many, many years. My favorite is Island State Park beach.. I loved the boardwalks along the NJ coast with my favorite foods - Philly steak sandwiches, Sausage sandwiches, pizza, custard cones, egg creams, french fries with vinegar.
I thank Christie because the most beautiful beach I have been too for a few winters is Cayo Santa Maria.
It would be nice to still have the quiet, calm and beauty that I have experienced before the Americans come.
I been along the west, south and east coasts of the USA (except Texas, Alaska and Hawaii) and the east and west coast of Canada. Also England, Scotland, Ireland and wales... but the most beautiful beaches is in Cayo Santa Maria.
