Lindsey Graham: Charleston Shooter May Have Been ‘Looking for Christians to Kill’

Source: Mediaite

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) just happened to be scheduled to appear on The View Thursday morning. But because of the deadly mass shooting at a black church in his home state last night, he did not get the chance to talk much about his presidential campaign.

Instead, Graham joined the hosts to talk about the possible motives of the shooter, who left nine people dead including the church’s pastor and former state senator Clementa C. Pinckney.

Graham wanted to assure viewers that this act is not a “window into the soul” of South Carolina. “It’s not who we are, it’s not who our country is, it’s about this guy,” he said of the assailant, “and this guy’s got tons of problems and to kill people in a church after sitting with them for an hour shows you tells you how whacked out this kid is.”

But despite the fact that the Justice Department has labeled the attack a “hate crime,” Graham was not willing to go that far. “There are real people who are organized out there to kill people in religion and based on race, this guy’s just whacked out,” he said. “But it’s 2015. There are people out there looking for Christians to kill them.”

Covering and doing spin for the motives of an apartheid-supporting, white supremacist murderer. Utterly shameless.

Somewhere in hell, Graham's racist Senate predecessor, Strom Thurmond, is attempting a smile.

If we had a media worth a damn, not only would Graham be disqualified for any consideration for the GOP nomination, he would be hammered and grilled with questions on these remarks the next time he gets invited to his weekly Sunday show tea time with Chuck Todd and George Snuffleuffagus.

Fri Jun 19, 2015, 12:26 AM

When whites would not allow blacks to worship freely, they formed their own church, the African Methodist Episcopal Church:

The AMEC grew out of the Free African Society (FAS) which Richard Allen, Absalom Jones, and others established in Philadelphia in 1787. When officials at St. George’s MEC pulled blacks off their knees while praying, FAS members discovered just how far American Methodists would go to enforce racial discrimination against African Americans. Hence, these members of St. George’s made plans to transform their mutual aid society into an African congregation. Although most wanted to affiliate with the Protestant Episcopal Church, Allen led a small group who resolved to remain history_SAllenMethodists. In 1794 Bethel AME was dedicated with Allen as pastor. To establish Bethel’s independence from interfering white Methodists, Allen, a former Delaware slave, successfully sued in the Pennsylvania courts in 1807 and 1815 for the right of his congregation to exist as an independent institution. Because black Methodists in other middle Atlantic communities encountered racism and desired religious autonomy, Allen called them to meet in Philadelphia to form a new Wesleyan denomination, the AME.

If he said it was a hate crime and decried racism he probably wouldn't carry his own state.

Republican voters are motivated by the idea that blacks are the recipients of special government largesse, rather than a disproportionate share of death sentences and prison cells. Every republican I know considers hate crime legislation a special giveaway to blacks like they do equal opportunity.

Go to any readers comments section and they will go on about why when a black guy robs a white guy why isn't THAT hate crime, totally oblivious to the difference between that and a white guy murdering 9 black people and posing with racist regalia.

The party of Lincoln is so much now the party of Lee that any candidate who dares insinuate that racism is not greater in black people or stereotypes are somehow justified would never win.

Sad to say but true.

79. Sen. Lindsey Graham: there’s ‘No doubt’ that Charleston church massacre was racially motivated
Sun Jun 21, 2015, 09:14 AM
Jun 2015

Days after several Republican presidential candidates downplayed or sidestepped the issue of race in the shooting deaths of nine people inside an historic African-American church in Charleston, S.C., Sen. Lindsey Graham acknowledged that race was the primary factor in the killings.

"There can be no doubt that the shooting on Wednesday night was racially motivated and signals to all of us that the scars of our history are still with us today," Graham, R-S.C., said in a statement Saturday. "Throughout our country, we still have much to do in the name of equality. I want to talk about those issues on the campaign trail."
