Neptune (NJ) cop charged with shooting, killing ex-wife in front of daughter
Source: NJ.com
Phillip Seidle, 51, a 22-year veteran with the Neptune Township Police Department, was charged with murder in the shooting death of his ex-wife Tamara Seidle on Sewall Avenue, said First Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Marc LeMieux
Tamara Seidle crashed her Jetta into an unoccupied green Ford Focus, LeMieux said. At that time, LeMieux said, Phillip Seidle got out of his car, took out his .40- caliber Glock service handgun and fired "several" shots into Tamara's Seidle's car.
LeMieux said officers were able to talk Phillip Seidle into handing over the couple's daughter. Once the daughter was in police custody, Phillip Seidle then fired more shots at Tamara Seidle through her front windshield, he said.

After looking at the object, he raised his arms over his head and walked out into the street to surrender, the witness said. The witness said police officers surrounded Seidle, who was "bawling his eyes out." While taking him into custody, some of the officers hugged him and patted him comfortingly on the back, the witness said.

More reporting:
One witness told Asbury Park Press that Seidle hit a police cruiser while running his wifes car off the road.
He clips the cop car and then drives into the back of the young girls car and then jumps out and starts shooting at her car, the witness said. The cop runs out but he doesnt do anything, and the baby is in the car.
Trina Poysner said that officers on the scene tried to convince Seidle to drop the weapon.
Put the gun down, she recalled them saying. Its not worth it.
My kids, my kids! Seidle allegedly yelled back. Im not going to see them anymore.
After an ambulance took the victim away, officers successfully convinced their colleague to surrender his weapon. The woman was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Her condition and the condition of the child were not known.

(7,769 posts)It's a terrible video, but you can see the shooter and the police response.
Even with cops present, no police appear to or have been reported to have shot at the assailant.

Outrageous.

(7,769 posts)Why didn't police use force in Neptune cop shooting?
Tamara Seidle, 51, was shot multiple times Tuesday morning on Sewall Avenue after a short car chase through the streets of Asbury Park, according to authorities. The first round of shots occurred as Asbury Park police officers were up the block responding to an unrelated car accident, acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said. After a hiatus in which officers were negotiating with him, Seidle fired off a second round at his ex-wife, Gramiccioni said.
Almost immediately after Tamara Seidle crashed her Volkswagen Jetta into a parked car, Phillip Seidle fired the first shots with his .40-caliber Glock service handgun into the passenger's side of Tamara Seidle's car, LeMieux said. He was off-duty at the time.
Phillip Seidle then paced around his ex-wife's car, holding the gun to his own head, LeMieux said. Tamara Seidle was shot again multiple times when he walked to the front of the car and fired through the front windshield.
When asked at a press conference Tuesday why officers didn't use force against Seidle while he fired off shots in police presence, LeMiuex said, that's "under investigation at this point in time."

The only "professional courtesy" a cop can offer is to not break the law so another officer is not put on the spot.

I know.. we all know "should". This really is kind of unbelievable even with all the tragic news about cops killing innocent people and getting off.
