Collin County DA asks Texas Rangers to investigate McKinney pool party incident

Source: Dallas Morning News

Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis has requested that the Texas Rangers investigate the June 5 pool party incident in McKinney that led to the resignation of a police officer who was seen on video pushing a black teen girl into the ground.

“I have full confidence in the good men and women of the McKinney Police Department and their ability to fully investigate this matter,” Willis said in a press release. “At the same time, an independent investigation of this incident will add an important layer of transparency to the process.”

Willis’ office won’t comment further because the investigation is ongoing, according to the press release. The request was directed to Texas Ranger Major Dewayne Dockery of Company B in Garland.

Eric Casebolt resigned last week after the McKinney incident became a national headline following tensions across the U.S. between police and minorities. His attorney has said that the ex-officer was under stress from previous calls when he responded to the pool party disturbance.

They have picked up some good prospects and during the last month they went from last place to 2.5 back from first.

I'm sure he is suffering for his deeds. Not only did he lose his job in a publicly embarrassing way, the footage will apparently be used in training, for what NOT to do. I would not be surprised if he was sued. He deserves this; He showed incredibly bad judgement and shouldn't be a cop as long as he is so volatile.

But I don't think he should be charged with any crimes. Wrestling people to the ground and pulling a gun on people are things that cops do. They are not criminal acts, in and of themselves (when done by police, anyway). He just did these things when it was unnecessary, and caused innocent kids to be frightened and put at risk for no valid reason.

That's how I've been shutting this subject down among my conservative co-workers. You always have to throw kids into the debate with conservatives, for their own children are all they care about.
