Two Hospitalized After Crane Accident in Manhattan

Police say a crane accident is closing down several streets in Manhattan.

Officials say it hapened at 261 Madison Avenue just before 11 a.m.

Officials say the accident involved a mobile crane, but it is still unclear if it was the crane or the cable that broke.

It happened approximately 30 stories up.

(and possibly others) on its way down. It probably sounded like an explosion when it hit the ground. It's bad enough having a small rock fall from that height.

"There was a loud noise and usually there is medal plating on the ground in front of my building so we assumed it was a large vehicle that had passed over the metal plating. But after I walked by the window there was smoke and there is not supposed to be smoke so I was a little confused," witness Roxy Travers said.

Dang spell checker, I'm sure. I wonder if the woman they quoted would have spelled it like that.

The story said 2 workers were taken out of an abundance of caution, and I bet under protest, so no one serious. That's pretty impressive, getting everyone out of the way in that big a place.

It says accident. Did they tighten all the bolts, so to speak?
