Zimmerman shooter must wear monitor
| May 29, 2015 | Updated: May 29, 2015 2:54pm
Judge Debra Nelson on Friday ordered Matthew Apperson to wear the GPS device so Zimmerman will know when he's close by.
Apperson's attorney argued during a brief hearing that the monitoring was unnecessary.
Apperson was charged earlier this month with aggravated assault and battery for firing a gun into Zimmerman's car during a traffic run-in. Zimmerman had minor injuries.
A police report says Apperson had a fixation on the former neighborhood watch leader and had recently been admitted to a mental institution.

(2,205 posts)If he would have been shot for stalking Zimmerman, another jury would have given Zimmerman the keys to walk

(30 posts)...that it's very possible he was trying to disarm him?
If Zimmerman had listened to the cop and hadn't followed him, Martin wouldn't have had a reason to confront him. But I suppose if you were being shadowed by some random idiot with a gun while you were walking through some neighborhood at night minding your own business, you'd just cower on the ground and piss yourself.

(50,562 posts)Zimmerman is not the model of stability...now Zimmy will know if Apperson is fixin' ta shoot him but Apperson won't have the same level of protection.

(50,562 posts)I'm quite positive Apperson would blow Zimmerman's shit away given half the chance. I'm equally positive Zimmerman would do the same for Apperson. They BOTH need to give the other warning of their approach.

(22,000 posts)And if Zimmerman were to know Apperson were nearby, what would really stop Zimmerman from shooting Apperson even if no threat existed? I mean we know Zimmerman gets his kicks off on being a bully. All he has to do is say he was protecting himself.

(19,567 posts)Instead they're usually told they have to give up their entire lives to hide from the person with the "fixation" on them if they want to remain safe until/if they're put behind bars. Then they have to be extra vigilant to not leave a trail for them to find when they get released. Because, "ultimately you're the only one who can assure your long term safety."
Our system is broken.

(1,958 posts)I also believe that judges should order these GPS devices to be worn by defendants waiting for trial for similar crimes that include assault on another person. The person assaulted should have an idea of the location of their alleged attacker.
