PeaceHealth workers set union vote

Source: Register-Guard

By Sherri Buri McDonald

Frontline workers, such as housekeepers and certified nursing assistants, at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart hospitals in Springfield and Eugene are set to vote on May 27 and 28 on whether to unionize, organizers said Thursday.

The organizers, who represent about 1,000 workers at Sacred Heart, recently filed a petition to unionize with the National Labor Relations Board.

They are seeking to join Service Employees International Union Local 49, which is part of the largest health care union in the United States.

Among the improvements the workers are seeking by unionizing are improved staffing, better health insurance coverage and higher wages.
