A Saudi national who murdered his father and a drug trafficker were beheaded Thursday, bringing to 71 the number of executions carried out this year in the kingdom, the government said.

The number compares with 87 in the whole of 2014, according to an AFP tally.

Amnesty International has criticised a “macabre spike” in the use of the death penalty this year in Saudi Arabia, which the London-based watchdog ranked among the top three executioners in the world in 2014.

Drug trafficking, rape, murder, apostasy and armed robbery are all punishable by death under the kingdom’s strict version of Islamic sharia law.

Yeah, we sure have double standards these days, and I don't like it much.

Due process? not anymore.

But apostasy is the most appalling reason ever.

Apostasy in Islam (Arabic: ردة? riddah or ارتداد irtidād'') is commonly defined as the conscious abandonment of Islam by a Muslim in word or through deed.

Key word "conscious". An adult decision in ones mind. These leftover rulers from the dark ages, are no better than ISIS. Some of their sons were brought up there, with Sharia Law and anti-West indoctrination, to come over here and fly planes into buildings on 9/11. Their families quickly scuttled out of the country even during a no-fly order. And administrations then and since continue to tongue-bathe them.

It wouldn't surprise me. There's a sword on the Saudi national flag.
