Mayor: Cleveland preparing as police shooting case wraps up

CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland's mayor says the city is preparing for possible reactions as the trial of a policeman charged in the fatal shootings of two unarmed people comes to a close.
A letter by Mayor Frank Jackson was posted Wednesday on Facebook. He says as Michael Brelo's trial wraps up, city officials and community and faith-based leaders are focused on how best to create a sense of safety, trust and confidence in the community, while empowering police to enforce the law and maintain order.
Jackson wrote that he wanted to alert residents about the city's preparations in light of recent violence in Baltimore and the series of police-related matters and legal proceedings in Cleveland.
The 31-year-old Brelo is charged with two counts of voluntary manslaughter. The trial is expected to conclude Thursday.
