You just try running a multimillion dollar business in East Oakland with no police protection whatsoever AND no guns of your own. It doesn't matter what the product is - if you could move a million dollars worth of Beanie Babies, but the police refuse to protect your business, you will need guns to defend yourself, or at least the reputation of having guns.

Do you think police should be private bodyguards?

It's precisely because they don't expect police to be private bodyguards, especially in Oakland.

Is he just completely abrogating his authority here? Is the DEA now more powerful than the president?

I am an Obama supporter, but I am at a loss to explain his drug policy. Can anyone help me out here? The only words that come to mind... stupid, weak, evil, cruel... would certainly not describe Obama policy in other areas. Why is Obama so consistently wrong on pot?

meanwhile, there are literally hundreds of LEGAL warehouse grows still operating in MMJ states. compare that to right around ZERO under every single previous President. how about the thousands of dispensaries and tens of thousands of caregivers.

just like responsible gun owners know when to shun the George Zimmermans of the world, smart MMJ advocates know that there are some illegal grows that deserve to be busted. an illegal grow of this magnitude is akin to suicide by cop.

also recognize it is the laws, rules and policies that govern Cannabis are the most harmful element surrounding its use.
We also ask the question: How is society made safer by this (or any other) raid? Where is the harm to society by its use? Crime is created as a consequence of Prohibition.
We also agree that the way to change these very laws, rules and policies is Not by Breaking the law.

not to mention much safer if the grow was protected like Colorado's legal grows. the pros let the locks, cameras and police take care of intruders, and it works. keep the money away from the MJ and only the stupid will try to get to the MJ to steal it. if someone wants to walk off with a garbage bag of kush, let their sorry ass. these people were ready for a shootout, probably to save their asses from prison.

this much pot plus this many guns is criminal stupidity. what these people are doing is the antithesis of the legalization movement.
