Protesters in New York Demonstrate Against Police Brutality, Attempt to Take Brooklyn Bridge
Source: Newsweek
On Tuesday, hundreds of New Yorkers marched in protest of police brutality. The protest began in Union Square and headed south towards City Hall.
"On April 14, we're going to revive the spirit of Ferguson, that spirit of refusing to suffer the brutality of the system in silence. And we're going to take it high. We have to get back out into the streets to declare that we're not backing down, we're not going away, activist Carl Dix told the War is a Crime Organization.
The protesters attempted to enter the Brooklyn Bridge, as they did in previous protests following the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.

(94,737 posts)This isn't directed at City Hall or the Police Dept; it's blocking a bridge used by commuters and tourists, many of whom are not the political elite you're trying to influence.

On April 14, we will take our movement to STOP wanton police murder to a whole new level. NO SCHOOL! NO WORK! STOP BUSINESS AS USUAL!
On this day, thousands of students must walk out of school, take over buildings and go on strike at colleges and high schools nationwide. People must gather and march in cities all across the U.S. The normal routine of this society includes wanton police murder of Black and Brown people. Everyone must disrupt that normal routine.
Our demands are clear:
* The murder of Black and Brown people by the police MUST STOP.
* Justice for all the victims of brutal, murdering police.
* Indict, convict and send killer cops to jailthe whole damn system is guilty as hell.
* Stop the repression targeting the protestsDrop all the charges against all those arrested.
The business as usual of police killing our people and never being punished is a concentration of an overall program of mass incarceration and all its consequences that has tens of millions of people living their lives caught up in the criminal injustice system of this country. A hidden part of this program is the demonization, criminalization, deportation, and murder of immigrants. This must stop. Will our righteous protest and the peoples determination to STOP this be suppressed with threats and empty promises? Will that business as usual continue? Or will we retake the initiative to lead, YES, millions back out into the streets, not stopping until the police murder of Black and Brown people stops? This is the challenge we face. All of us must act on April 14 to loudly declare we will not go back, stop the police murder of our people.

(68,868 posts)This isn't an organization with any history of doing any work in NYC.
They chase cameras, instead of doing work.

(14,691 posts)I wonder if they had any Free Palestine signs in there. They include Palestine in everything regardless of the declared purpose of the protest of the moment.
They're a bunch of loose cannons. Don't work well with others. It's all about them. I know this from experience volunteering with United for Peace & Justice.

Lovely view of Wall Street from the Promenade. Don't you agree?
