Rand Paul Says ‘I Am Running for President’
Source: New York Times
Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky declared himself a candidate for the Republican nomination for president on Tuesday, aiming to upset the political order in Washington and disprove those in his own party who doubt that a fiercely libertarian conservative can be a serious contender.
I am running for president to return our country to the principles of liberty and limited government, Mr. Paul wrote in a post on his website on Tuesday.
Mr. Pauls brand of politics could make him both an outlier and a target among his rivals. In a primary contest of candidates debating which of them is the most doctrinaire conservative, Mr. Paul is likely to be the only one arguing for reducing federal drug penalties, clamping down on the nations intelligence agencies and taking a more deliberative approach to military intervention.
On social issues like abortion and same-sex marriage, however, he does not stray from the Republican Party line.

(14,807 posts)If you have 10 Conservative candidates who all get 10 hours a week via print or interviews and you have only 3 Dems getting if lucky, 2 hours a week in print or media, then how is it anywhere near fair.
People will be inundated with crap this time worse than before.

(30,250 posts)They are putting themselves out there. They are delusional if they think that either one can win their party's nomination, let alone the GE. Cruz is a nasty, arrogant jerk who is disliked by most in the Senate. Paul is a Libertarian. He too will bite the dust before all is said and done.

(5,829 posts)KY law won't let him run for POTUS & Senate at same time. Quirky laws would prevent a Repub running in KY Senate race 2016, leaving Dem candidate w/o major opponent.
Wonder what back door, underhanded approach GOP will use to circumvent the law...?
