Ted Cruz To 'Global Warming Alarmists': Galileo Was 'Branded A Denier' Too
Source: TPM
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) likened himself to Galileo as he defended his position as a climate change denier in an interview Tuesday in New York City with the Texas Tribune.
-snip-
When Root said that "most people say the science is clear," Cruz was ready with a rebuttal. He cited a 1970 Newsweek article that touted "global cooling," a trend that, he said, wasn't supported by data, as support for his belief that we should "follow the science."
"I am the child of two mathematicians and scientists," Cruz said. "I believe in following evidence and data. On the global warming alarmists, anyone who actually points to the evidence that disproves their apocalyptical claims, they don't engage in reasoned debate. What do they do? They scream, 'You're a denier!' They brand you a heretic."
"Today the global warming alarmists are the equivalent of the flat-earthers," Cruz continued. "You know it used to be: 'It is accepted scientific wisdom the Earth is flat.' And this heretic named Galileo was branded a denier."

First off, Galileo didn't claim the Earth was round. He proved (rather than claimed, you fuckin' idiot) that the Earth and planets circled the Sun.
For someone who is the offspring of scientists and mathematicians, you sure crawled out of the shallow end of the gene pool.

(62,448 posts)my Dad ignored a sign that clearly said he was about to turn the wrong way on a one way street.
He turned the corner and was immediately facing 4 lanes of traffic waiting at a stop light a block ahead. They would mow us down.
"You're going the wrong way" my Mom said. "No, I am not, they are" said my Dad. Even at 7 years old, I knew he was so badly wrong.
Must be the way Cruz feels about now.
Cruz chooses to drive headlong into the one way onslaught about to hit him. My Dad turned down an alley to turn around.

(469 posts)... then the deniers are the frogs in the pot of water on the stove. They simply cannot accept that the situation is indeed changing, and becoming quite dire. They just sit there in the water as it gradually boils, and deny that anything dangerous is happening.
The point is, whether they accept it or not, they - and WE - are being COOKED!

Ted Cruz apparently cannot distinguish the incorrect idea that the Earth is flat from the incorrect idea that the Sun along with every other heavenly body (excepting the Moon) orbits the Earth.
The Greek philosopher Eratosthenes demonstrated scientifically that the Earth is curved by measuring said curvature approximately during the 3rd century B.C.E.:
The Catholic Church's problem with Galileo had to do with Galileo's support of the idea of heliocentrism instead of the Church-supported idea of geocentrism:
So, to place Ted Cruz's above remarks in proper context, his remarks should be annotated:
...
"Today the global warming alarmists are the equivalent of the flat-earthers," Cruz continued. "You know it used to be: 'It is accepted scientific wisdom (This is not true and never was true. Since simple experiments do not show that the Earth is flat, Cruz's accepted 'wisdom' cannot be scientific in origin.) the Earth is flat (accepted 'wisdom' until about the 3rd century BCE when the Earth's curvature was scientifically demonstrated by Eratosthenes).' And this heretic (due to his support of heliocentrism) named Galileo was branded a denier (of geocentrism)."

This jerk-off was supposedly a debating champion? The competition must have been pretty weak if they couldn't refute his contentions. Just because he speaks with authority does not mean that he IS an authority on anything. What an asshole.

Cruz, the Dominionists' "Anointed One," suffers the same psych profile as rest if GOP with a heavy reliance on the defense mechanism of projection -- blame others f/ your faults. And the RW religionists also lean heavily on denial -- denial of anything that upsets their warped view of reality.
