William Koch gives another $1 million to pro-Romney 'super PAC'

Source: L.A. Times

WASHINGTON -- Billionaire energy businessman William Koch, whose brothers finance an array of conservative political causes, directed another $1 million into a "super PAC" backing GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, according to new campaign finance records filed Friday.

The donation to Restore Our Future was made through Huron Carbon, a subsidiary of Oxbow Carbon, a privately held coal and petroleum supplier that Koch founded and runs.

The contribution means that Koch has steered at least $2 million to the super PAC: Last year, Oxbow Carbon gave $750,000 to Restore Our Future, while Koch personally gave the group $250,000.

The donations represent stepped-up political activity by the Palm Beach, Fla., resident, whose twin brother, David, and older brother, Charles, are famous for their lavish support for conservative causes.

Although Bill Koch is unquestionably conservative, hes not the sociopath his brothers are. He doesnt get along with them, divested himself from them, and once sued them under whistleblower action to stop them from illegally drilling on federal and indian land.

to " buy America" ~ this is exactly what they are doing.

I don't have a problem with donating to a candidate, but IMO, this is an outrage.

He doesn't care about anything but his money, and he undermines our democracy and the health of our country to obtain more. He epitomizes what is wrong with our political system. Anyone who is politically aware but isn't outraged by this, is part of the problem.

doesn't contribute millions of dollars to undermine democracy, destroy public schooling, eliminate environmental regulation and advance the insanity of the "free market". He's a politician who has no choice but to work within a corrupted system. If he could, he would probably bring about major reform. I don't consider him a sociopath.

It is such an unbalanced playing field. How the SCOTUS can say money is speech is beyond me. Money is power, not speech. And that power is not unrestrained, free to buy politicians and whole elections at will.

For starters I could retire on $1 million. But some less selfish ideas - instead of paying for more attack ads that money could buy biology textbooks for my daughter's school, it could put new computers in our public libraries, it could pay for new teachers in our schools, ....... But NOOOOOO, that money will be wasted on political lies.
