State to request emergency stay after judge's decision to overturn gay marriage ban

LINCOLN – Nebraska will request an emergency stay from the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday afternoon, according to Attorney General Doug Peterson.

He said state officials hope to get a ruling on the stay before March 9, when a decision overturning the state's same-sex marriage ban is set to take effect.

The state will ask for the stay to remain in place until the appeals court can fully consider the merits of the case. The 8th Circuit Court has scheduled arguments May 11 on appeals brought by Nebraska and three other states.

4. Having lived in Lincoln (1994-2000), I know that there is a very big right wing Catholic

hierarchy in the state. They opposed having altar girls; they didn't
want non-catholics in their parochial schools; they excommunicated
a Lincoln city council member for daring to support Planned Parenthood.
They wanted to reinstate mass being said in Latin. Seriously
regressive political positions.

8. the dangerous religious right

I really believe the religious right is behind this..and people don't realize how evil and dangerous they are to our freedom..they ..I mean like tony perkins head of America family values or something like that which is not good family values to hate..and pat Robertson..both have hundreds of millions and they plan to use that money to try to fight and defeat marriage equality as well as punishing gay people to have no rights and god knows what else they are up to on that, and there big plan is to get in politics more and try to do away with the constitution and form a theocracy..thats what I mean by very dangerous they have to be fought..freedom it seems and rights seem to be something we constantly have to fight to maintain because of these dangerous people..i wish people could all see there hate filled dangerous agenda..i don't think all religion is evil..some say it is..because of things like this, but I believe there are good Christians but people that believe pat Robertson and tony perkins and the like are dangerous misguided people.

exactly how dangerous they all are. Take a few minutes off from their war and enjoy the battlefield meltdown of their minions. Can you imagine if you were told the "we will defeat this. Just pray more and send us money" Then BAM. They become the cosmic joke.

When the dust settles they regroup and double down on a woman's right to her own body. yoga pants are their cause. LOLOLOL The more they get defeated the more they out themselves to the upcoming generation as nothing more than evangeliban.

Women have no rights, clothing is restricted. Rape is not serious, but lay back and enjoy it if it is inevitable, arrested for miscarriages, need a mans approval for medical procedures. Yearbook photos are digitally altered to hide the shoulders. Many religious leaders have said gays should be killed, camped, reeducated, fired from jobs etc. The blind eye to church leaders raping the children.

They can pass all the laws they want to ban Sharia law. It is noticed when they come out and support aspects of it. By their actions they shall be known. They are pushing for a "pure" society which promotes hatred. Society is not, nor they ever have been "pure" by their standards. Even the pilgrims could not be pure enough for each other and split into differing religious sects. They know if they ever do succeed in getting their way, they will be at war for real with their former allies over who is the "purist".No different from the Taliban, isis, or AQ.

In the meantime the religious leaders attain great wealth, build fortresses to hide in and stay above the fray. Hell if I was a better salesman I would become a religious leader. That is the only surefire get rich quick scheme in this country.

legitimate reason for a good judge to agree to a stay.
