George Zimmerman is likely to be freed on bond Friday - even though behind bars may be the safest place for him.

Zimmerman's attorney Mark O'Mara said he’s confident his client, who has spent a week behind bars for the Feb. 26 murder of Trayvon Martin, will walk out of court after the 9 a.m. bond hearing.

But that just opens new problems, O’Mara said.

“I just hope we can get my client out to someplace safely. There have been threats on his life,” he said.

I'm not going to try to figure Zimmerman out until later, when this veil of supposedly internal contradictions is lifted and he seems a little less enigmatic.

Mark O'Meara is not stupid. He'd rather have Zimmerman in a place where neither a revenge-minded gunman can't get at him and where Zimmerman can't make a public statement or make any more phone calls to Sean Hannity.

I don't give a two bit damn what John Derbyshire thinks. When was the last time he made a contribution to intelligent discourse? Can't we just leave him and people of his ilk out of our discussion? Any discussion would be more meaningful without reference to the right wing media.

He won't want Zimmerman saying anything stupid, BUT he might want to join Zimmerman on the Hannity show to make sure all "the right things" are being said. I am not sure how much it helps, but it has to look better for the prospective jury pool if he is out on bail, rather than only being photographed in a prison jumpsuit. He needs to improve Zimmerman's public image as much as he can. He might get a bit of sympathy if people think he is in danger.....whether it is true or not.

Trevor Dooley shot and killed James Davis in front of his daughter a while back. He was released on bail andis now asking for a dismissal. This happened within an hours drive of George Zimmerman's shooting.

there was no profiling in this case and if davis attacked dooley, well....a man is going to do what a man is going to do. right or wrong. I'm sure race is in here somewhere, yet this case is different from my perspective. I'm sure there are witnesses to this one. Dooley profiled teenagers on skateboarders and chased them away.

And, Stand Your Ground should not be a license to kill.

Dooley stands a good chance of walking free, after being out on bail during the entire trial.

Let's not make it about race. You could say that Zimmerman enjoyed the benefits of an indifferent police force and familial ties to the judicial branch. You could also say that Zimmerman took his "job" as neighborhood watch captain too seriously. But, there are no facts introduced into a court of law that suggests this was motivated by race.
