Authorities: Explosion near NAACP office targeted accountant
| February 20, 2015 | Updated: February 20, 2015 3:41pm

DENVER (AP) — A judge has ordered the man accused of setting off a small explosion last month near a Colorado NAACP officeheld without bond pending a hearing next week.

Thaddeus Murphy, wearing a white tee shirt, said nothing during Friday's hearing before Magistrate Judge Michael Hegarty. The next hearing for the 44-year-old carpenter is set for Wednesday.

The pipe bomb explosion rattled nerves because of its proximity to a Colorado NAACP facility, but investigators say the venerable civil rights organization was not the target. Instead, Murphy was in a rage over his financial problems and was targeting his accountant's office, according to court documents filed Friday.

Allen said there hasn’t been a tax office connected to the building on South El Paso Street in nearly 20 years.

“What happened was, you placed an explosive device in an attempt to do harm. Inside of that building was human beings,” Allen said. “I don't care what your purpose was, you hated somebody.”

It is good to hear that someone is skeptical about his motive and that it is getting some coverage.

being in a position where you tried to bomb the NAACP and it was dud but you were caught and had to come up with a story, so if convicted the sentencing wouldn't go so hard on you.

Using my best Twilight Zone voice..
