Hindu temple vandalised in US, hate speech painted on walls

A Hindu temple has been vandalised with hate speech in the US state of Washington, sending shock waves through the community in the area and prompting authorities to launch an investigation.

The incident happened when unidentified miscreants sprayed swastika and painted “Get Out” on one of the walls of the temple in the Seattle Metropolitan area. It is one of the largest Hindu temples in the entire North West.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department is investigating this case as malicious harassment. On Monday top county officials visited the temple.

“This kind of thing should not happen in the US. Who are you telling to get out? This is a nation of immigrants,” Nitya Niranjan, chairman of board of trustee of the Hindu Temple and Cultural Centre, Bothell, Washington said.

Years ago here in Vancouver a Mosque was vandalized by a bunch of red neck teenagers because they thought it was a Sikh temple. That was before 9/11. No excuse for making that mistake now but baggers are not wise to the ways of other cultures.

Though, I must wonder, will someone soon come along and lecture Hindus on how this isn't really a "hate crime" because it is a positive religious symbol (as shown in your pic) and they should just "ignore it". Though, "reclaiming" the symbol would be much more the job of Hindus than Jews (the last group lectured when a synagogue was "decorated" with swastikas).

a Hindu group paid for a small plane to fly a banner over the NYC beaches in an attempt to reclaim the swatstika from its Nazi symbol past. It wasn't too successful.

I suspect it's only posted here because some people have such a personal hatred for the USA that they post things like this to show, in their minds, yet more evidence that America is evil.

Don't get me wrong--a case of racist graffiti should be investigated and nipped in the bud.

But the country that invented religious freedom doesn't need to apologize to India.
