Ruth Bader Ginsburg: 'I Wasn't 100 Percent Sober' At State Of The Union
Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's rabid Internet following is sure to go nuts over the admission that she dozed off at the President's State of the Union address after drinking a fine wine.
Ginsburg was asked about her SOTU catnap Thursday at George Washington University, where she and her colleague Justice Antonin Scalia were interviewed by NPR.

"The audience for the most part is awake because they're bobbing up and down all the time. And we sit there, stone faced, the sober judges," Ginsburg said. "But we're not, at least I was not, 100 percent sober."

(6,829 posts)If you expand the range of substances that cause intoxication beyond alcohol into prescription and recreational drugs, I would guess Ginsburg would have been in the clear majority. I mean, the way some of these guys reason and conduct themselves, one would think they consume drugs more voraciously than Hunter S. Thompson in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"! Whatever drug they consume, my guess is it's on the top of the list of drugs that create pathological criminally insane psychosis.

(38,187 posts)We might get reasonable legislation from Congress, less sadistic enforcement of laws in the Executive Branch, and a bunch of unconstitutional crap struck from the books in the Judicial branch. Take their coke away and give them some weed. So many of them won't be such huge assholes then.

(30,249 posts)That would lower her capacity to absorb alcohol.
On the other hand, I can handle most of a bottle of wine without much of a problem. I was raised in countries that serve wine with every meal and I'm used to it.
A toast to Justice Ginsburg.

(30,249 posts)Good for her!!! It's the only way to listen to these things anyway. They are always boring and serve no other purpose than for a president to extol and pad his accomplishments and those of his administration. After listening to so many of them over the years, I now skip them altogether and read the transcripts later on to see if there are any new proposals that are worthy and actually feasible.
Besides, no good wine should go to waste.

(38,187 posts)Of course, she is missing the best part of Obama's presidency if she misses his speeches, though. The man gives great speeches.
Still, I can see how that would be hard to sit there all stone faced and still like that. That would be torture for me.
