As the US supreme court’s deliberation of same-sex marriage draws closer, lawmakers in several states are attempting to reign in other civil rights recently granted to the LGBT community.

Conservative lawmakers from Kansas to Florida are working to repeal anti-discrimination laws, stop new ones from being enacted and expand laws on religious freedom.

On Thursday in Oklahoma, the state House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly for a bill which would protect members of the clergy who refuse to perform same-sex marriages. The bill now passes to the state Senate.

In Arkansas, the state’s 35-member Senate has passed a bill barring municipalities from creating protected classes. The law is reportedly part of a backlash against city council members in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where a law barring discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation passed before being repealed by referendum.................

Because it will not make any difference in their lives unless they have gay family members or friends
and in that case they should want what makes members of their family or friends happy.

And the REPUBLICAN governor of Alabama in a very gracious statement just said that Alabama has problems
but gay marriage will not be one of them.

The GOP, FOX, and "Faith" provide an avenue for that hatred along with a "guilt-free" card. They're already turning the focus to the muslim community in anticipation of a declining impact of gay hatred. Guilt-free HATE...it's what feeds the Po box.

makes them feel good to go through life kicking and persecuting others. I really think more and more it's a mental issue with them than a sociological issue. I also think there is likely a lot of commonality of personality types across these forms of irrational hatred as quite unstable individuals. For a good many IMO it's also a form of 'psychological projection,' defending "themselves against unpleasant impulses by denying their existence in themselves, while attributing them to others." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_projection

1) Sadly death is the one cure for that kind of deeply seeded hate.

2) And yes I think in many cases they are projecting to hide their own same sex attraction.
Because sometimes they really go into the details of the mechanics of "gay sex."

fight for the ordinance. Said Arkansas had been proven wrong about slavery and inter-racial marriage in the past. Both of the those ideas were supported by the same churches that opposed the human rights ordinance.

Clergy are not considered places of public accommodation, and nobody is going to want to force a clergy person to conduct a marriage ceremony.

that many Christians (on the right) fear:

protecting clergy refusing to conduct gay marriages

this could be interpreted that a religion must marry a gay couple due to a secular law.

Well, when I say "we" I mean 'most gay people and our real allies.' Some can call these bills "feel good" or "playing to the party" but the truth is they can be used to inflict some serious harm in the foreseeable future.
