Northeast Forecast to Suffer Lowest Temperatures in 20 Years
Source: NBC News
Millions of Americans across the Northeast were warned by forecasters to prepare this weekend for some of the coldest temperatures in two decades.
The dangerously bitter conditions are expected to come on the back of yet another winter storm bringing more snow, ice, and high winds across the Northeast beginning Saturday.
The cold will start to creep in early Friday, according to The Weather Channel, and the mercury is expected to plummet until it hits the low single digits in New York City early on Monday. With the windchill forecast between -15 F and -30 F, it is set to be "one of the coldest air masses we have seen in the Northeast in 20 years," according to Weather Channel senior meteorologist Michael Palmer.
Boston, which has been buried by a series of snowstorms in recent weeks, is set to dip below zero early Monday, and there is an "outside chance" the same will happen in New York for the first time since 1994.

(26,060 posts)(and Brooklyn born) just peeled off several layers after getting to the office - very cold and windy outside. Depressing to see it's going to get even colder but my sympathy is reserved for New England who is going to also get pounded with another very significant snowstorm.

(24,764 posts)All I gotta do is push the snow aside and the front sidewalk is cleared.
The back, that's another story. My walkway from my kitchen to the car is one sheet of ice underneath packed snow, in which only my boots give my traction. My roomies, not so much--they don't have boots.

(5,214 posts)Will be 15-20 degrees warmer than normal and will last for up to 2 weeks.
Barrow will see the same, but as their normal day temps are -8 and night temps are -20 do you think any non-native will consider this a heat wave?
Also, since there are not nearly as cold temps up there, I see the Arctic ice taking a further 'hit' and decreasing even further.
THIS won't be reported on FOX or your Pigboy's broadcast.

(26,622 posts)See, all that crap about global warming is just nonsense, because here's winter and it's cold and snowing and blah, blah, blah..
Every news media outlet in the country should have daily interviews with climate scientists explaining this severe weather and the man made activities that are causing it. Every extreme weather event, including ongoing droughts and the melting of sea ice, should be reported and explained, in America and everywhere else on the planet. We are currently hell bent for self extinction.
But Benghazi..................

(63,221 posts)I live in Boston, btw, so maybe it is the commuting problems. However I honestly can't remember a more depressing, miserable winter in my adult life. I grew up in upstate NY where we probably had some pretty harsh winters, but I just don't remember them as being so miserable and inconveniencing as this one. The upside is that once Spring arrives it will seem like heaven.

(14,337 posts)I always go back to NY in February for the cold weather and snow. My nickname here in Florida is the Polar Bear, but -15 wind chills are a bit much even for me. Hope my SIL has stocked up on logs for the fireplace, AND some nice hot spiced wine!!!!! Sorry, to tease you. I know the WINDS with that low a temperature can be brutal.
BTW, it has not been in the 80s in South Florida in weeks. Tonight is supposed to be in low 40s, with inland areas down to freezing. High 50s and low 60s for highs tomorrow. Must be the entire Eastern Seaboard.
Stay safe and warm, Boston. That is WAY TOO MUCH snow.

(18,868 posts)But we have no snow. We have hardly had any snow this year.
The cold is easy to handle (except for the homeless people, of course. And they mostly come into the shelters). But that kind of snow just has to be beyond awful.

(1,986 posts)Drudge does this all the time. You see, if global warming is happening, there shouldn't be cold weather, because everything would be getting warmer.
That's their angle. They ignore the fact that global warming is supposed to cause more extreme temperatures, not uniform warming of the climate.
