Dem State Treasurer Calls For Oregon Gov To Resign

Source: TPM

A leading Democratic elected official is now calling for Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber (D) to resign.

Per KGW in Portland, State Treasurer Ted Wheeler issued a statement asking Kitzhaber to step down. It comes the day after Kitzhaber was reportedly going to resign, but then changed his mind. He and his fiance Cylvia Hayes have come under fire for allegations that she worked for groups that try to influence public policy while also advising the governor.

"It is with deep sadness that I ask Governor Kitzhaber to resign his position as Governor of Oregon," Wheeler said. "He has accomplished many great things during his long career, and history will be kinder to him than current events suggest."

"Unfortunately, the current situation has become untenable, and I cannot imagine any scenario by which things improve," he continued. "Oregon deserves a governor who is fully focused on the duties of state."

Yes, in New Jersey his errors would be reported in one column and barely a ripple of public attention would result. But here in Oregon
we have a "newspaper" that wants him gone. They have been relentless and nasty in their stories and the number of them. Then very mean people have been making an ocean of nasty mean spirited comments about our governor on several websites. The politics in this state have been very damaged by this supermarket tabloid masquerading as a newspaper. They don't want to see democrats passing legislation this session. Horrors that some might earn a living wage or that oil and coal industries wouldn't be able to pass through here
spilling their junk.
