LINCOLN A bill banning workplace discrimination against employees based on sexual orientation or gender identity is again headed back to debate by the full Nebraska Legislature.
State Sen. Bob Krist of Omaha voted Tuesday to advance the bill out of the Judiciary Committee. He changed his mind the following day, saying he wanted to return the bill to committee to ensure adequate faith-based exceptions.
On Thursday, Krist told his legislative colleagues he will allow his original committee vote to stand. Instead, he said he would address his concerns when Legislative Bill 586 comes up for first-round floor debate in coming weeks.
The bill would prohibit workplace bias against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Nebraskans. The Judiciary Committee voted 5-2 with one member not voting to advance the bill.
