Federal investigators have contacted officials at an airport in Columbia, South Carolina, its executive director said Wednesday, as part of an investigation into whether a United Airlines flight route between Newark and Columbia was initiated to provide the former Port Authority chairman with a direct route to his weekend home.
Dan Mann, executive director of Columbia Metropolitan Airport, said in an interview that the twice-a-week flight between Newark and Columbia bracketing weekends was unusual for a large carrier like United. He also said he was surprised the route lasted as long as it did, 19 months, given the relatively low demand for it.
It was not performing well, and it hadnt performed well from the start, Mann said.
Despite that, he said he had no reason to believe there was any ulterior motive behind the flight route until he read recent news stories about the federal investigation.

How long before Christie comes out and says "I never met or spoke to David Samson"?
How long before Christie gets caught up directly in these spreading scandals?

This is going to be very interesting. This is clearly under federal jurisdiction, unlike many of the other crimes that may be state matters. Sampson knows where all of the bodies are buried. It's time to start the squeeze-if it hasn't already begun. Kelly & Wildstein have been very quiet, so has Baroni. I think the noose may be tightening.
This is a very interesting paragraph that shows just how "unusual" this arrangement was:
Theres the schedule, the loads, the frequency, the fact that United never publicized this route and that they pulled it three days after Samson resigned, he said. Its a combination of things that make this stand out.
Just a coincidence that there was only one flight from Newark to Columbia, SC and and one flight from Columbia to Newark. Going south on a Thursday (when everybody in NJ wants to fly to Columbia) and back on Sunday night. Time for the General to start singing.
