Michigans unemployment rate continued to move in the right direction in March, dropping to 8.5% from 8.8% in February. The last time the states jobless rate reached this level was in August 2008.
During the first quarter of 2012, the number of unemployed in Michigan fell by 37,000, Rick Waclawek, director of the states Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives, said in a statement.
Payroll jobs in the state have increased by 57,000 or 1.4% since March 2011, with nearly all of the hiring occurring in manufacturing, professional and business services and education and health services.
Michigans unemployment rate, which was once the highest in the nation, is now just a tad above the U.S. unemployment rate, which stood at 8.2% in March.

(4,211 posts)Obama didn't turn his back on the auto industry like Romney wanted.
It's so damn annoying to watch Gov. Snyder tweeting that the reinvention of MI is working. He's done NOTHING to help improve MI's economy. The unemployment rate was decreasing for 1.5 years before he even came into office. Of course the "liberal media" won't point this out.

(31,243 posts)where he spoke a couple of years ago (I think it's in OH), but the point of the report was that the first time the president visited, area unemployment was at 11%, and now it's down to 7.5%, which is lower than the national average. Community colleges are the frontline for retraining unemployed workers, and helping them find their way back into the workforce.
I hope the speech gets posted here.
