A Florida bill would require people to use bathrooms according to the gender they were assigned at birth or face criminal charges and lawsuits.
Christian legislator Frank Artiles, a Republican state house representative from Miami, introduced HB583 in the Florida legislature on Wednesday, as a public safety measure. A committee assignment is pending.
The whole purpose of this was to protect, especially females, from criminals, Artiles said.
The bill defines gender as a persons biological sex, either male or female, at birth. If enacted, the bill would charge people with a misdemeanor if he or she used a bathroom, fitting room, locker room or shower intended for the gender opposite the one he or she was identified with at birth. It would also allow others in the bathroom to sue in civil court.
Single-sex public facilities are places of increased vulnerability and present the potential for crimes against individuals using these facilities, including, but not limited to, assault, battery, molestation, rape, voyeurism and exhibitionism, the legislation reads.

(62,416 posts)a 'restroom assignment manager.' This job will entail checking genitalia of all who enter the restrooms and directing them to the proper room and making sure they go there and there only.
And Republicans say government doesn't create jobs.

(9,154 posts)The article says gender assigned at birth, so your Restroom Assignment Manager would also need to be a time traveler. Perhaps a psychic.
The job description could also be called Marketing Expert for the Gender Reassignment surgeons.

Updated: 02/04/2015 6:58 PM | Created: 02/04/2015 8:10 AM By: Stuart Dyson, KOB Eyewitness News 4 Don't flush this idea down the drain just yet. Santa Fe's mayor stirred up quite a controversy with a plan for public restrooms that both men and women would use - but hang on - it's probably not what you're thinking. Javier Gonzales is not talking about men and women sharing big public restrooms. He's talking about ones with one toilet and one sink. Sometimes they're called "family" restrooms. You've seen them at places like Starbuck's and Target. "Right now businesses across New Mexico already have gender neutral bathrooms, many of them do," Gonzales said. You get an idea of how it would work by visiting the Santa Fe Convention Center. There's a women's room with three stalls. Guess what? It's going to stay a women's room. Across the hall there's a men's room. It has three stalls. It's going to stay a men's room. In the middle is the one the mayor is talking about. It's got one toilet and one sink. The door locks. Privacy. You don't share anything. The mayor says his plan does target one group in particular. "It sends a huge message to an important part of our community, that you can be safe," Gonzales said. "If you're transgender, there's a place for you to go." And you can go there too - if Gonzales gets his way. He will soon present restroom legislation to the city council.

pretty sure I remember that they are unisex on planes.

(14,691 posts)I recall two jobs I had where we had unisex bathrooms because - one location was a former nursing school dormitory and the other was a residence for unwed mothers. Only one sex was in there at one time - we utilized a sign on the door to let co-workers know which one's in there at any time. The men were always outnumbered by women so they were at a disadvantage. Other than that, no problems.

that the policy of having no policy is the preferred policy.... (Yes, Prime Minister)
If, on the other hand, you are somebody who enjoys watching others using the toilet, I can see this sort of thing needs to be organized.

(9,148 posts)(snip)...according to the Fayetteville Flyer. In the robocall, Duggar -- who is a conservative Baptist -- addresses the issue of transgender individuals' right to use the proper restroom.
"Hello, this is Michelle Duggar. Im calling to inform you of some shocking news that would affect the safety of Northwest Arkansas women and children. The Fayetteville City Council is voting on an ordinance this Tuesday night that would allow men yes, I said men to use women's and girls' restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas and other areas that are designated for females only. I dont believe the citizens of Fayetteville would want males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls. I doubt that Fayetteville parents would stand for a law that would endanger their daughters or allow them to be traumatized by a man joining them in their private space. We should never place the preference of an adult over the safety and innocence of a child. Parents, who do you want undressing next to your daughter at the public swimming pools private changing area?"

Fayettville successfully passed a Transgender discrimination law, with Mz Dugger's assistance.
