Well that's the end of an era for those of us who worked for GTE. It was a bad marriage to begin with and Bell Atlantic got what the wanted GTE Mobile-Verizon cell service.

Yeah, end of an era. Started in Bloomington Il, GTEDS, moved to Durham NC, then to Tampa.
Working from Tampa (Temple Terrace), got to work in Holland, Japan, Denmark, Portugal.
That was no merger with Bell, although it was fed to us as such.

(3,919 posts)frontier regularly increases rates with no notice (other than teeny tiny print on the margins of your bill). the service sucks - especially in rural areas where they are they are the only major providers for internet service. in our valley we receive less than .05mbps on a regular basis. i pay $45/month but only because i put up such a stink they have given me a 6 mo reprieve and then my bill will increase to $55/mo. but, don't have much of a choice out here.
my hope is frontier will exchange with verizon for oregon,

(20,176 posts)I have Frontier here in CT...they bought AT&T's TV/Internet/Phone business. They have the most consistently-terrible service...my internet drops constantly; they messed-up all my On-Demand TV services, menus, channel offerings; they took away on-screen caller ID; billing has become a nightmare; and their customer service is the shits...pretty much every aspect of my service got worse after Frontier took over.
They're a joke...if they cannot provide service on the territories and customers they already have, they need to quit acquiring more. I wish there were some way the FCC or some other regulatory agency could make them go away...dissolve them for failing to provide contracted services or something. They have no local competition so it's not like they are even going to lose customers for how shitty they are.

(16,199 posts)They worked with the Union for good benefits, reopened call centers AT&T shuttered, and give their employees bad weather days off where the previous company never did.
My neighbor is a technician who switched with the purchase of the entire landline network in CT.

(12,157 posts)I wasn't aware that Verizon had anything in Connecticut except for Greenwich. I knew that SNET was sold to SBC which became ATT but I did not know that Verizon acquired the former SNET territory. So did Verizon keep Greenwich?
