Detroit DOT sat for years on millions for ride program

Source: Metro

DETROIT — Detroit officials sat for years on millions in transportation funds intended for a ride service to help low-income residents get to work, the Lansing State Journal reported.

The Detroit Department of Transportation received a total of $17.4 million in federal and state transportation funds in 2004-12 to start the program, called Job Access and Reverse Commute, which provides affordable door-to-door rides to enable car-less city residents to get to work, the Journal said.

The program has been mentioned as one possible solution to the predicament faced by James Robertson, a 56-year-old Detroit man profiled by the Free Press this week who, due to the region's limited bus service, walks about 21 miles a day in his commute to and from a factory job in Rochester Hills, the Journal said.

But not until last summer did DDOT launch the rides program for Detroit residents. Why DDOT didn't set up the program earlier was not immediately clear this week, according to the report.

Some people have complained about the recent State financial takeover. My impression is that there was pretty much nothing the Detroit Government was doing competently.

All you have to do is control the rest of the state.

"Republicans gained four seats, defeating two first term representatives and picking up two open seats. In the Senate, they gained one additional seat maintaining a super majority controlling 27 out of the 38 seats. With the re-election of Governor Rick Snyder, there is full GOP control in Lansing."

So yes, Detroit is the RepubliCONS fault. And their dictator of Detroit does NOT make it any better for the people. They could have had an election and voted in someone, you know like democracy is suppose to work. Instead a dictator was easier for the RepubliCONS to install. Remember how much dubya liked dictatorships.

I truly hope our people won't draw a line in the and and complain about undue "oversight" of Black politicians. If the shoe fits wear it.......The Kilpatrick administration was shit and really owed it to Black folk to do the right thing.
