Brad Ashford (D-NE) thinks Congress needs a pay cut — so he's donating 10% of his $174K salary

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Joseph Morton

WASHINGTON — Congress needs to take a pay cut.

At least, that’s the opinion of Reps. Brad Ashford, D-Neb., and Dave Loebsack, D-Iowa.

Ashford has signed on to Loebsack’s proposal to reduce by 10 percent the salaries of members of Congress — now set at $174,000.

“The last four years in Congress have been some of the least productive in our nation’s history,” said Ashford, who was elected in November. “The partisanship and gridlock have reached an all-time high, and when I travel around the 2nd District, Nebraskans tell me they want accountability.”

Democrat Brad Ashford says it’s silly for members of Congress to be paid so much when they do so little.

I'd hope the message is Congress ignores voters, the country's needs, and is consequently over paid. mpcamb Feb 2015 #5

There's no way U.S. M$M will report on this. Instead, they'll probably go on the defensive with a potential war with Russia, etc., etc., oh, and the gratuitous, "Obama is unpopular!" meme.

It sounds too much like a "big government spends too much" move and our problem, as pointed out by the group of economists that always turns out to be right, has been that the US government has not spent enough.

Hope we're wrong about it being ignored, too.

even pay millions of their own money to get the job.

Most of them are bought and paid for by the 1% so why should the taxpayers have to contribute too?

I have been following Brad Ashford and he is very strange.

And that's why I think he's a one termer.

And Congress is a lot of bad things, but overpaid is not one of them.

If you pay Congressmen peanuts, then you're making it all the more impossible for modest income people to serve. If their salaries are too low, the only people who will serve are rich people who don't need the money.
