Republican Congressman Demands Number Change for Bill 666, Because Satan
Source: Newsweek
Texas Republican Congressman Joe Barton doesnt want chatter about Satan getting in the way of his legislation.
His bill to repeal a decades-old ban on crude oil exports was introduced Tuesday as House Bill 666. By Wednesday, Barton had successfully lobbied to get its number changed to a less-Satanic 702, the Hill reports.
It quickly became clear that the original bill number carried many different negative connotations, Barton spokesman Sean Brown said in an email to the Hill. We decided it was best to change it so people will focus on the content of the legislation, not the bill number.
Theres no word on whether his exorcised bill has any better chance at passage. But if the problem at hand concerns the Book of Revelation, it seems the 114th Congress can really jump into action.

Sheldon Adelson cracks open checkbook for GOP
Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson has donated $10 million to a Karl Rove-backed outfit boosting Republican Senate candidates and promised a similar amount to an allied group focused on House races, POLITICO has learned.
The check to the Rove-conceived Crossroads GPS and the pledge to American Action Network represent the first major foray into the 2014 congressional midterms by Adelson, according to multiple sources who travel in big-money GOP circles

(2,682 posts)When I worked for a law firm as a paralegal, I had a client who formed a new corporation. I sent the documents to the state capital to be filed with the Corporations Division. They sent the documents back with a corporate filing number that contained three sixes in a row within the number. The client flipped -- demanded that I get the number changed. The number is not actually used on any other document and wouldn't be seen by the general public for any reason. However, at the client's request, I called the state, explained the problem (as well as I could without laughing) and asked if we could re-file, eliminate the original filing number, get a new one and yet still keep the original filing date. To my utter surprise, they agreed and the transaction was amended. My time was billed by the hour so the client paid for this transaction.
