Democrats hit GOP plan for replacing Obama health care law

Source: AP-Excite

By ALAN FRAM

WASHINGTON (AP) — A plan by three Republican lawmakers for replacing President Barack Obama's health care overhaul would leave Americans with less coverage and higher costs than the landmark law they want to repeal, Democrats said Thursday.

"It effectively raises taxes on the middle class, removes bedrock protections for consumers and chips away at key coverage benefits that Americans rely on," Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon, top Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, said a day after the GOP authors released their outline.

"Republicans are trying to put politics first, put power back in the hands of insurance companies rather than patients," said Washington Sen. Patty Murray, leading Democrat on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.

Democrats have lambasted Republicans for promising to repeal and replace the health care overhaul virtually since its 2010 enactment yet failing to advance a substitute. Republicans face growing pressure to suggest a replacement plan because 19 million Americans will be covered under Obama's law this year, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates.

Have been voting against their own interests for years, or worse they don't even vote

It isn't only red states, look at Wisconsin, or the last midterm elections

If what the republicans are doing is a surprise to anyone they haven't been paying attention because the republicans have not hidden their intentions

If gopers somehow take the White House and hold onto Congress we're screwed. The first thing they'll do is kill the filibuster, then they'll repeal the Affordable Care Act and put us back at the mercy of giant insurance companies. Instead we need to get our collective asses out to register more new voters so that healthcare has a chance to move closer toward single payer.

take away health insurance for 19 million = 19 million highly pissed citizens = 15million highly pissed eligible voters = 5 million highly pissed voters looking to extract some measure of revenge against the GOP. Even the GOP Math don't look good!

they won't get the one vote that matters...President Obama. So it will just make them look like the partisan hacks they are.

is that there is no more guaranteed issue, unless you maintain continuous coverage. Some people are just not organized or are forgetful, and there are inevitably people who will not renew and then be sentenced to bankruptcy or death because they develop a chronic condition.
