Tuberville says ‘God sent us Donald Trump,’ in new radio ad
Posted Jan 27, 2020

By Mike Cason | mcason@al.com

Former Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville launched a radio ad today for his campaign for the U.S. Senate, repeating an assertion he’s made on the campaign trail, that the Donald Trump presidency is the result of divine intervention.

“I’ve coached for the last 30 to 40 years,” Tuberville says on the ad. “I’ve been around young people, and I believe if we don’t get God back in our schools, this country has got no chance of surviving. I’m a Christian conservative Republican. I believe in the sanctity of life, and I say it with all of my heart ‘God sent us Donald Trump’ because God knew we were in trouble.”

Tuberville is one of seven candidates running for the Republican nomination for the Senate seat now held by Sen. Doug Jones, a Democrat who is seeking reelection. The primary is March 3, five weeks from Tuesday.

Others running for the seat include former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne of Fairhope, former Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, state Rep. Arnold Mooney of Birmingham, businessman Stanley Adair of Haleyville, and Ruth Page Nelson of Dothan.

A Jesus-freak football coach, a pedophile with a tiny gun and a racist elf. What other state has a lineup like that?

He's a grifter. And you can't be good at the grift without being able to size up your marks and go for their weak spots. With Alabama, those weak spots are bathed in neon with sirens attached.

It's no surprise Alabamians have picked what was the second-worst candidate in the race as their GOP frontrunner. This is the bunch that nearly put Roy Moore in that office a couple of years ago and only missed by a razor-thin margin. And that's after he was exposed for lusting after tender-aged gals in the local mall.

Tuberville's shady past is no secret. It's followed him for decades, from school to school, job to job, and landed him in legal trouble. Alabamians have moved past the kiddy-diddler to the exposed con artist who avoided prosecution for financial fraud by turning evidence against his partner.

Little wonder then that the big orange grifter in the Oval Office gave Tubs his seal of approval. Birds of a feather, you know.
