Minnesota lawmaker mocks local students who asked for meeting, says she wont meet with Democrats

A Republican legislator in Minnesota refuses to meet with a group of students from her district because they’re Democrats.

Rep. Mary Franson (R) shut down the Alexandria Area High School (AAHS) Democrats after the group reached out to her on Twitter on Friday and said, “We’ve made some calls to your office, and haven’t recieved [sic] a response, but as politically active, community centered students we’d love to have a meeting with you soon to address our concerns, and have a respectful productive talk.”

The group went on to propose a meeting at Franson’s official legislative office. Franson replied by dismissing the AAHS Democrats as a “partisan” organization.

“I don’t meet with partisan groups in my office — besides, isn’t your group actively campaigning against me?” she wrote, before suggesting that the group should seek a meeting with a local state senator, Bill Ingebrigtsen (R). (The founder of AAHS Democrats, Jack Ballou, told ThinkProgress he’s in fact met with Ingebrigtsen through his role in another student organization.)

Hey lady, you really are a piece of right wing work------------------Thanks for playing is your response.

I don't think they, the students were "playing", how fucking demeaning and immature you really, really are.

I hope these students expose you for what and who you really are a republican fascist, and hound you.........

Good on the students to be engaged................

has been going on since at least 2000 and I would say even before that like 1992. This is profoundly disturbing, I mean it’s been insulting and frustrating and infuriating for years but, now, finally, it has become a terrifying threat to this country and the American people.

You don't know it yet, but that was a mistake. If high school students in your district ask to meet with you, say Yes. If you say No and blow them off rudely, as you did, it will make the news and make you look like the schmuck you are.

Labor issues? Farmer issues? They no longer matter to voters in districts like that. Fox has poisoned the waters.

Franson emerged from election night on November 6, 2012, with a one-vote margin of victory, triggering an automatic recount under Minnesota law.[3][4] Due primarily to a voting irregularity, the recount left Franson with a 12-vote lead

Granted it went on to say she won handily in 2014, but still, IT CAN BE DONE Minnesota!!

I didn't know we could refuse to do our jobs if the people we're doing them for are part of a group we don't like. LET'S GO, GUYS!

I'm an IT guy, for instance. Now when my users call to report problems my first question will be: "Are you a Republican?" If the answer is "Yes," I'll simply hang up/close the ticket. Because fuck them and their problems; I get to decide!

I deal with vendors to buy products my organization needs. I can refuse to do business with Republican vendors even if it means we'll lack the equipment/software we need to stay afloat?? AWESOME!!

I interview people for my team. I can now ask people's political affiliation and refuse to hire the Republicans. You want to eat and shelter your kids, GOP? TOO FUCKING BAD! Not on MY watch!

I'm a freelance writer who covers technology. I can screen out potential readers to only permit my publications to be read by non-Republicans since I sure don't want any damned Republicans learning anything useful from me.

Oh, wait, if I did any of this stuff I would be FIRED.

Minnesota, you know what to do: FIRE HER.

IMO, accepting a salary from the public's coffers means you are obligated to represent ALL your constituents.

What if one brought suit to demand she not accept the proportion of her salary that represents the percentage of Dems in her district?

Also, could her statement in some way be a violation of her oath of office?
