"To protect and defend the Constitution of the United States..."
They have failed miserably.
They know that there is a clear and present danger to our nation and to our Constitution, but they do nothing. Not only do they have the power to do something about it, they have the duty to do something about it.
They refuse to hold this President accountable to the laws and statutes of this country. They have surrendered our nation to fate.
Every single one of them should be dismissed from their jobs as soon as possible.

(42,594 posts)Trump is awful, but he was always going to be awful. That's who he is. But the only people that currently have the power to stop him are not only refusing to stop him, but many of them are fully on board with what he's doing.

(9,127 posts)Todays Republican Party behaves like the sort of kleptocratic oligarchical parties that used to be prevalent in Latin America. Genuine patriotism is set aside for show, the common good for personal greed, the constitution and the voting process diddled to keep themselves in power, and a willingness to take money from foreign powers instead of serving the people and interests of their homeland.
The party of Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt has become a party of Banana Republicans.

(9,127 posts)Todays Republican Party, whatever their current racial and ethnic composition, behaves like a corrupt Latin-American oligarchical party. Patriotism is given lip service while the politicians cheerfully take bribe money to increase their wealth and further the interests of foreign governments and corporations. The US and US -based corporations did a lot of bribing back in the day and the Republican Partys leadership is acting like Latin politicians of half a century ago (and still are in some places).
The same rot has moved north of the Rio Grande and has crossed the Straits of Florida. The Radical Right has installed a generation of vende-patria Republican politicians.
